Patience In Waiting

This has always been something I have struggled with. It is hard to be patient today when we are living in a world where we can pretty much have whatever we want at the touch of a button. But just because we can have something right when we want it, doesn't necessarily mean that it is what's best for us or that we should have it.

Nothing worth having comes easily. Working hard for something or waiting for something that is just right and perfect instead of settling for second best is always going to be more worthwhile.

Luke 13:20 says, “The kingdom of God is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened."

Patience is a lot like baking cookies. They start out as a small piece of uncooked dough, but with time, they grow into bigger round cookies.

You see when you bake cookies you have to put them in the oven for about 15 minutes. You could take them out early after 5 minutes, but they wouldn't be done. They would not be what they are designed to be. They would be mushy and fall apart in your hand. But if you carefully follow the instructions and wait until the cookies are ready, when you take them out they will be baked to perfection, and taste way better than if you left them in for only 5 minutes.

We can rush and push things in our lives that we think should happen when we want it to happen. We can do things our own way, instead of waiting on God, but we may not necessarily be ready for what God is trying to give us at that particular time. We could be patient and wait for God to act in our lives instead of forcing things ourselves.

True patience is a virtue. Patience is the ability to have control over the impulses that occur when something disagreeable happens. Impatience is lack of self-control. This impatience can quickly grow into anger and irritability.

How many of us lose our patience every once in a while? Some of us may even lose our patience on daily or hourly basis.

We all have our weaknesses and we are all human and being patient isn't always easy. Waiting on God's timing can certainly test our patience as well as our faith.

Maybe you are waiting on a job, or waiting for your vocation to be revealed to you or maybe you are waiting for a future spouse to come into your life.

Whatever it may be, have patience with what you are waiting for, DON'T GIVE UP!

Time is a very important aspect of our lives. God gives us this time for a reason. It is a time to come to God and to grow deeper in love and trust. Do something for someone else during this time. Serve the poor, reach out to a friend in need, travel the world, chase your passions and listen to that still small voice inside your heart for His guidance. Discover all that God has created you to be and embrace this time to grow in patience, trust and humility.

Don't forget that God is working in all aspects of your life. In your mess, in your disappointment, your frustrations and even in your deepest heartache, He is there with you every step of the way.

Living a life of gratitude can be very helpful during this time of waiting. Instead of focusing on all the things you may want but don't have, focus on all that you do have and be grateful for all the ways that God has blessed your life. Don't worry so much about what's to come. If you  waste  your time  worrying  about the future, you may miss what God is putting in front of you in the present moment.

"Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset."

Every moment and every situation that you are faced with in your life is bringing you closer and closer to growing into the person that you were made to be.

Everything that happens to us on this Earth, amidst all the ups and downs, is to ultimately prepare us for our salvation. Even if you are confused and feel like you don't know what God's plan is, don't give up! Hope and trust that there is a plan, and a beautiful one at that!

The more joyful and peaceful you are during this time of waiting, the more fruitful the gift that God has in store for you will be. This gives purpose to your waiting and allows us to grow closer to God during this time.

Usually, we always want things to happen right away or in our own time, but we so easily forget that waiting on God's perfect timing is always going to be worth the wait. God's plans are always higher and better than our own.

God is incredibly patient about things eternal. Our angst, our impatience, our disappointments, and setbacks are in the light of eternity, pretty insignificant. Keeping our focus on Christ will help give us perspective. Whether it be in our prayer life, with our families, our ministry, or in the ordinary things of everyday life.

"I'm oppressed by the uncertainty of my future, but I cherish the lively hope of seeing my dreams fulfilled because the Lord cannot place thoughts and desires in a persons soul if He doesn't joyfully intend to fulfill them, to gratify these longings, which He has caused."

God is always working to change your heart for the better through every situation. It's so easy to become hopeless during this time, but DON'T GIVE UP! God will never, ever give up on you and He will always provide. He loves you very much!

My prayer for you is that you may open your heart and allow yourself to be changed for the better and to use this time of waiting to grow deeper in faith and love.
